Power Pumping

Power Pumping

Did you know that you can use your breast pump to increase your milk supply? A huge factor of milk production is supply and demand: the more milk your baby needs, the more milk your body will produce. This is why during growth spurts babies tend to cluster feed, or feed more frequently or for a longer duration. Your boobs will get the message that more milk is needed and start producing more breastmilk. Cool, huh? Well, you can achieve similar results with your breast pump by Power Pumping.

How to Power Pump

Many mamas find that power pumping is most effective prolactin levels are natrually highest, e.g. in the evening or overnight or in the very early hours of the morning. Prolactin is the hormone which tells your breasts to produce milk, thus many mamas find pumping during these times yields the most milk output. We recommend double-pumping as that increases prolactin levels even more!

Set up your pump station next to a comfortable chair and relax in front of your favourite TV show.

Power pumping is performed over a 1 -2 hour period. We recommend setting up your pumping station in front of the TV with a tall glass of water, and queuing up your favourite Netflix show. Remember to make sure your pump is fully charged or have your power adaptor handy 🙂

Example power pumping schedule:

  • Pump for 10 minutes
  • Stop for 10 minutes
  • Repeat for at least one hour

You can expect to see an increase in your milk production after power pumping for 2-3 days.
