Pumpables Universal All-in-one Narrow Neck Breastshield Set Double Pack comes with 2 sets of breastshield, valve, membrane to allow double pumping.

The Pumpables Universal All-In-One Narrow Neck Breastshield is an all-in-one breastshield that is compatible with most major brands of breast pump and narrow neck bottles. For full compatibility info, check the compatibility tab.

The all-in-one design means that the breastshield is in one piece - there is no separate flange (the funnel bit) and the entire breastshield screws directly to your bottle. This has the advantage of less pieces for cleaning and assembly, but does mean it's more expensive to replace parts if you need to change sizes.

This shield fits with narrow neck bottle sets. If you are using wide neck bottles, you will need to purchase the Pumpables Narrow Neck to Wide Neck Bottle Adaptor.

The set includes:

  • Breastshields in your chosen size x 2
  • Valve heads x 2
  • Membranes x 2
  • Adaptors to connect to backflow protectors (e.g. for a Milk Genie or a Spectra pump)

Please note that Backflow protectors or filters are not included, Spectra compatible backflow protectors are available separately on our site.

Using the Pumpables Universal All-In-One Breastshield

The back part of the shield is shaped to allow a tubing connector  to plug directly into the shield. If the end of your tubing looks like this, then the tubing will plug directly into the shield. Examples of models that will work with this setup are the Spectra Dew 350 and the Medela Swing (but not the Medela Swing Maxi or Freestyle unfortunately).

If you are using a breast pump with a backflow protector, then you will use the Pumpables adaptor piece. Plug the adaptor piece into the back of the breast shield, then connect the backflow protector to the adaptor piece. You will connect your pump tubing on the other side of the backflow protector as usual. Examples of models that will work with this setup are the Pumpables Milk Genie, Spectra S1, Spectra S2, Spectra 9 Plus and Spectra M1.

We always recommend you use a backflow protector when pumping for optimum hygiene.

How to pick the right flange size

If you experience any kind of pain when pumping, the wrong size shield is often the culprit. Women are not one size fits all, and it's no different with breastshields! If you have no idea at all what size you are, then you can try to gauge the size by measuring your nipple circumference. Note - it is irrelevant what bra cup size you are - it is the width of your nipple when you are pumping that determines your flange size. Some women's nipples change shape more than others do when pumping, so unfortunately the size of your nipples when not pumping is not always an indication of flange size.

Measuring your nipple

To measure your nipple, you need to measure straight across the widest part of the nipple (not including any areola). It's best to measure right after pumping as your nipples may swell a little when you pump.

If you are using a normal ruler to measure, once you have measured your nipple size, simply add 2mm to your nipple size, and that would be the best shield size to try. So if your nipple size measures 19mm, you would try the 21mm shield size. 😉

If you are using the nipple ruler, the size to try would be the size stated on the hole that fits you with a 2mm gap around your nipple, so if the 21mm size hole is the best fit, try a 21mm shield size 🙂
