Introducing our Liquid Shield Kit system, a complete shield kit compatible with lots of other brands that uses liquid silicone to deliver more comfortable pumping. Each kit contains one set of the Liquid Shield System - please add two kits to your cart if you're wanting to double pump.
The Liquid Shield system by Pumpables is different from traditional hard flange systems because it contains a soft interior insert, the Liquid insert. This is made out of lovely soft liquid silicone, and it works very differently from a traditional flange.
The Liquid insert moulds to the breast tissue, and provides a soft environment for the nipple to be drawn down. Because the Liquid insert is full-length, and extends all the way from the breast right past the nipple, there are no edges or friction, just a nice comfortable material of liquid silicone.
As the Liquid insert is flexible, when your breast pump applies suction the Liquid insert will actually collapse down around your nipple, which helps compress and massage the nipple. This mimics the way your baby's palate compresses the nipple when she is breastfeeding.
If you experience any kind of pain when pumping, the wrong size shield is often the culprit. Women are not one size fits all, and it's no different with breastshields! If you have no idea at all what size you are, then you can try to gauge the size by measuring your nipple circumference. Note - it is irrelevant what bra cup size you are - it is the width of your nipple when you are pumping that determines your flange size. Some women's nipples change shape more than others do when pumping, so unfortunately the size of your nipples when not pumping is not always an indication of shield size.
To measure your nipple, you need to measure straight across the widest part of the nipple (not including any areola). It's helpful to measure after pumping for 10-20 seconds.
If you're still not sure, choose the 21mm size. This is probably the 'average' size.
If you're significantly under a 21mm in size, then you may not be a good candidate for using the Liquid Kit. As the insert is malleable, if you are too 'small' for the Liquid insert then you may find you lose suction. Ask us for help if you're not sure.
This listing is for one single pack of the full Liquid Kit. This means it includes:
If you're wanting to double pump, please make sure you add 2 kits to your cart. It's fine to add different sizes.
This shield fits with wide neck bottles. If you're using narrow neck bottles, you can still use Liquid Kit with a wide to narrow bottle neck adaptor (or just buy some cheap wide neck bottles).
The Liquid Kit is a closed system, so you can use it with any pump (i.e. Spectra). You must use the entire Liquid Kit when pumping (you cannot use just the Liquid insert with breastshields from another range).
The Liquid Kit comes with a standard sized silicone tubing, but some pumps i.e. Medela need a connector attached to the end of the tubing in order to connect it to the pump. If you're using a pump that has a tubing connector between tubing and pump, you may not be able to use Liquid Kit.
Breastshield sizing is tricky. To get started, use the ruler at Nipple Ruler.

If you are using a normal ruler to measure, once you have measured your nipple size, then round up to the closest mm, and that would be the best shield size to try. So if your nipple size measures just under 19mm, choose the 19mm shield size .
If you are using the nipple ruler, the size to try would be the size stated on the hole that fits snugly. Your nipple should fit in the circle on the nipple ruler snugly, but without the circle squashing the nipple. Minimal space should be visible between the nipple and the edge of the circle on the ruler. You do not want areola entering into the circle - just nipple. Send us some pictures if you're not sure.
All Pumpables parts in contact with your milk are free from BPA, phthalates and other nasties.

Using the correct sized breastshield is really important to have the most comfortable pumping experience. We are all different shapes and sizes, and it can be really hard to know which breastshield size you will be when you start pumping.
A baby's mouth compresses a nipple evenly all over the nipple and areola, whereas a breastshield flange is rigid. As a result, if your flange is too large, the areola will 'bunch' up into the flange, which can cause pain and nipple trauma. You want the flange to be just wide enough to fit the base of your nipple, preventing the areola from being able to get pulled into the flange.
Using our nipple ruler is a good place to start.
If you've used the ruler and you're still not sure, we're happy to help with another opinion. If you'd like us to give you feedback, please take a photo of your nipple through each size so we can compare how each fits. You can send your pics through the 'chat' function at bottom right of the page.
For extra help, send a video of your nipple in the flange while you're pumping through our Fitting Room.
